Considering the above title there is no agreement about if there are actual disadvantages or side effects to breast feeding in general , but we can consider a group of risk factors that is associated with breast feeding :
1-Transmission of infections as the
TORCH infections from the mother to the baby through the breast milk , theseinfections can be manifested by various presentation in the baby in the first years of life as mental retardation , small head and convulsions .
2-Transmission of drugs as it may almost all the drugs are contraindicated as those which suppress the immune system of the baby and the mother .
3-Prolonged breastfeeding with out supplementation of other types of food beyond the age of about 6 months is great risk to the baby , as there are many requirements will not be covered by breast milk at this age . Surely it can not be considered as a side effect but it is a point which must be pot into consideration in breast feeding .
4-Breast milk jaundice : which is discoloration of the skin and the mucous membranes due breast milk , there are many theories which can explain the process the most accepted one is infrequent breastfeeding which affects the entero-hepatic circulation leading to accumulation of the bilirubin In the baby , so the trearment in this condition is frequentbreastfeeding .
5-Unknown intake of the breast milk
6-Less flexible as other family members can not participate in the process of breast milk intake .
7-Many mothers complains from emotional upset as they can not provide the needs to their babies . For more about the advantages
